They took the CAN out of CANADA.

Not much happens here in Durban. Or maybe it does and I just never get to hear about it. Either way, when a famous punk band from Canada is scheduled to play in our little home town, its quite a big deal. But when said punk band doesn't happen to appear on stage at all on announced night, you can imagine that its even a bigger deal, leaving many an angered concert goer in its wake.

From what I hear, the opening bands did their bit, but when it was time for Sum 41 to play the main set, they just did not pitch, saying that the weather was too miserable for them to appear on stage and depriving the crowds of what they had paid for. Miserable weather? Hmm, that's quite strange. You see, I have this friend who went to Canada last year. Upon his return, he showed me pictures of his adventures there which consisted mainly of huge chunks of ice in the background wherever he went. Also the odd frozen lake or two...followed by more chunks of ice. Which is quite self explanatory, seeing that Canada's closest neighbour is a little place that we all know as the Arctic. (Well technically, I suppose Canada's closest neighbour would probably be the U.S.A. But from what I hear, they don't speak too favourably of each other in those parts, so I wont go there). Besides, it couldn't have been THAT bad could it? I mean the last time I checked, South Africa was a warm, sunny country, located near the tropics. A far reach from ice-bound Canada. Which is why to me, a bunch of Canadians complaining about bad weather here is probably something similar to Bill Gates, complaining that he is too rich. It generally doesn't... or rather, shouldn't happen.

My heart goes out to all the people in the crowd who braved the "apocalyptic" weather only to be stood up by the main act. I can only hope that you guys get a full refund.

I have however, posted an image here of another bunch of Canadians who played at the EXACT same location last year, in almost IDENTICAL weather. Yep, I was fortunate enough to attend the Billy Talent gig. And what a gig it was! These guys were awesome. True rockers. They can definitely show their counterparts, a thing or two.

So my final words to Sum 41: There may not be an "i" in team. But there is definitely an "i" in bail. As well as in idiots. Thanks and good riddance.
